After 13 years as a sleep training expert, I've come across my fair share of people who feel that allowing their child to cry, for any length of time, is either cruel, harmful to their health, irresponsible, or unnecessary.

I know that no functioning parent enjoys hearing their baby cry, but I think it's time we spoke seriously and honestly about what a crying baby is actually trying to communicate, and why we're making far too big a deal out of a few tears these days.

This week, I'm chatting with sociologist and PhD Dina Rose; author of It's Not About the Broccoli - Three Habits to Teach Your Kids for a Lifetime of Healthy Eating and if you've got a picky eater in the house, or just want to encourage your kids to have a healthy relationship with food, you've got to check it out.

Viewing the behaviors surrounding kids and food from a sociological point, Dina has some  simple, logical, and very effective suggestions on how to use proportion, variety, and moderation in ways that will teach your kids to eat well, and most importantly, to enjoy eating well.

And, as always, please take a moment to give us a review on iTunes or Stitcher if you like the show, and help us spread the word to all of those parents out there looking to build their best family.

Enjoy!

North Americans have developed a strange attitude towards sleep over the years, adopting slogans like, "Sleep is for the weak!" and "I'll sleep when I'm dead!" which are somehow supposed to demonstrate ambition and determination, and not a blatant disregard for their health.

The truth is, sleep is not some luxury that we can indulge in only when we've got the time. This pessimistic view towards an essential element of our health regimen is leaving a lot of people running on a perpetually empty tank, ready to drop as soon as their caffeine supply is interrupted.

So how much sleep do we really need, and how can we make it a priority while still maintaining our hectic schedules? That's what I'm talking about today, and I've got some very practical, effective answers for you!
